100 Fun Things to Do Instead of Shopping

Thanks for sharing!

“Happiness” is a powerful word in the marketing industry because it can be one’s motivation to spending money.

However, buying new things is not really bring you “happiness,” psychologist Daniel Kahneman said. (1)

Researchers at two U.S. universities conducted studies about the happiness associated with consumer products. This study proved that happiness does not come specifically from the objects we buy. It is an emotion associated with our motivations for making those purchases. (2)

For example: If you want to buy a new car, here are few steps you’ll need to take:

  • Visit a car dealer
  • Talk about a new design and features with others
  • Test drive multiple cars

These processes are “source of happiness,” the new car itself is not the “source of happiness.” This research really makes sense to me.

I often browse online shops even though I don’t need anything. It’s because I enjoy searching for new items, not spending money or getting new things.

Don’t get me wrong. Buying new things feels good! I also enjoy shopping. I’m just saying that there are many ways to satisfy our desire besides shopping (:

Here are 100 fun things to do instead of shopping.
