Experiment: How to Get More Real Followers on Twitter

Thanks for sharing!

Did you know that there are 48.35 million monthly active Twitter users in the US? Twitter is the fifth most popular social media network and could be a part of your marketing strategy.

Last year, I read an eBook called “How to Gain 1000 Twitter Followers.” After reading all of the content on that eBook, I thought “Well, it sounds like magic. Maybe not apply to everyone.”

I also read a lot of articles about “How to Gain Real Twitter Followers” on the internet and found out that most bloggers and/or eBooks recommended the same method. That’s interesting!

So, I decided to test out these methods and report the progress here.

If you want to grow your Twitter account and gain more real followers, this experiment can be a useful resource (:

How to Get Followers on Twitter

  • Schedule your tweets
  • Use image, video, gif, emoji

Experiment Methods for 6 Months

The goal of this experiment is “1000 followers.”

To make this happen, I will do these things every day for 6 months:

  • Tweet 5 times a day
  • Engage with followers, at least 5 people a day (like/comment/RT/RT with comment)
  • Follow at least 100 people a month in my niche
  • Unfollow people who are not following me every end of the month (why? clean up a Twitter feeds, so I can engage with real followers)

Please note: I want to meet people with similar interests on social media. So, I won’t randomly follow people because of this experiment. I care about engagement with my followers.

Experiment Result

I gain 854 followers in 6 months. My Twitter account has over 1000 followers now. The experiment methods worked!

What I’ve learned from this experiment: Creating content for Twitter wasn’t easy at all. It’s like a real full-time job. I read tons of blog posts or news, summarize them, and recreated them for Twitter content. (add credit to content source) If I had enough money to outsource social media marketing, I would hire social media content creators…

And also, Twitter is a fast-paced social media channel. During work hours, I missed so many chatting opportunities with my followers. I believe most of the people are not browsing Twitter 9-5, including me. It’s was so difficult for me to be active on Twitter constantly.

Lastly, the most effective way to grow your followers is by following people. Again, I did not randomly follow people because of this experiment. But following people was a really powerful way to grow your audience. (otherwise nobody knows about your Twitter account existence)
