How to Create a Branding Kit for Your Business

Thanks for sharing!

Branding is a part of marketing strategies and critical to any type/size of business. Why? Branding helps your business to get recognition and become known to the users/customers.

A branding kit is a brand style guide that includes a logo, color palette, fonts, and message that represent your business. It’s like a brand rulebook that explains how to represent your brand in public/online.

In this post, you’ll learn how to easily create a brand kit on Canva.

First, what is Canva?

Canva is a free online-based graphic design tool, used to create a wide variety of graphics such as logos, presentations, posters, documents, and more.

It’s very easy to use and includes so many free templates, free photography, clip arts, etc.

I used to use the free version but upgraded to a paid subscription.

Paid subscription, Pro plan is $12.95 a month and include:

  • One-click design Magic Resize
  • 420,000+ free templates with new designs daily
  • 75+ million premium stock photos, videos, audio and graphics free-to-use
  • 100GB of cloud storage

I really like Canva because it’s simple and easy to use for anyone. You can use it to create different types of digital arts from anywhere if there is Wi-Fi. You don’t have to download anything! And also, templates are high-quality and inspiring designs.

How to Create a Brand Kit using Canva Pro

For this tutorial, I’ll create a branding kit for this site to maintain brand consistency.

Step 1. Sign up for Canva

To use Canva, you need to sign up for it. It’s free to sign up, but you need an email address. If you already have a Canva account, then log in!

Step 2.  Set Up Your Canvas

Once you log into your account, select one of the 8.5 x 11 documents. You can choose your preferred canvas size here, but an 8.5 x 11 letter size document is easy to print out from any type of printer. It’s always nice to choose the easy-to-share with anyone.

Ok, now you’ll see this screen. Select “create a blank.”

Step 3. Find Center

Find the center on the canvas will help us to create a professional-looking design. Canva does not have a grid tool, so we can create our own.

Click “Elements” on the navigation bar and select shapes > square. Place the square in the corner of your canvas.

Make a copy of that square.

Click the square shape > click keyboard Ctrl + C and then Ctrl + V. You’ll see two identical square shapes now. Aline those two.

Select those two squares at once.

Click one of the squares> click keyboard Shift and hold it then click another square with your mouse that you did not click at first.

Now you can change both square sizes at the same time. Click the white dot on the corner of the square and change the size. (fill the empty space)

When two squares filled the empty space, search vertical line using the search bar under the elements.

Click one of the vertical lines and place it between two squares. That will be the center of the canvas.

We can remove centerlines later, so for now let’s “locked” it.

Step 4. Create a Custom Template

Based on this centerline, build a custom template. In this tutorial, the template includes:

  • Primary Logo
  • Brand Mission & Icons
  • Color Palette
  • Font Selections

Step 5. Upload Logo

Click “upload” on the navigation bar and click the purple button under the search bar called “upload media.” Next, the select the location where you’ll get your brand logo.

My logo is saved on the desktop, so I selected “Device.”

Now, you’ll see your logo in the image’s library on Canva. Click your logo and you’ll see your logo on the canvas. You can freely change the logo size on the canvas.

Step 6. Add Images and Text

Add images such as logo and text on your template. You can control letter spacing and line height under “spacing.” Simply click your text box and click the “three lines with an arrow button” icon.

Step 7. Remove Unnecessary Elements

Unlock the centerline and remove it. Check overall design.

Step 8. Download It

Last step! Download it as: (your choice!)

  • PNG
  • JPG
  • PDF
  • SVG
  • MP4 video
  • GIF

Done! Now you have your branding kit for your business.

Wrapping Up

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!

Canva is an easy-to-use graphic design tool for beginners as well as non-designers. I often use it for creating a presentation for my freelance project, a thank you card for the eCommerce business, making Pinterest images, sketches, etc. It’s really convenient for instant-design (:
